So, How Do You Actually Go About Hiring a Realtor?

Navigating the real estate market can be daunting, especially when it comes to choosing the right realtor. With so many options available, where do you even begin? Let’s break it down, starting with a couple of things you definitely shouldn’t do.

What Not to Do When Hiring a Realtor

  1. Don’t Just Google “Best Realtors in [Your Town]”
While it might seem like a good idea to find the top-rated agents in your area, the results can be misleading. Many realtors pay for top placement on Google search results, which doesn’t necessarily reflect their effectiveness or reputation in the community.

  2. Avoid the First Agent You See on Zillow or Other Home Search Apps
Similar to Google, realtors can also pay for visibility on home search platforms. Just because an agent appears at the top of the list doesn’t mean they are the best fit for your needs.

Now, if researching agents isn’t your thing, I get it! But if I were about to make one of the biggest decisions of my life—buying or selling my home—I would take the time to interview several realtors to find the one that resonates with me.

What to Consider When Hiring an Agent

Before you hire an agent, here are a few steps to ensure you make an informed decision:

  • Read Their Reviews
Look for testimonials from past clients. This can give you valuable insight into an agent's strengths, weaknesses, and how they handle different situations.

  • Check Out Their Website
A professional website can be an indicator of an agent's dedication to their business. Look for listings, client resources, and informative content.

  • Browse Their Social Media
Social media platforms can give you a glimpse into an agent's personality and how they interact with clients. It can also show their involvement in the community.

  • Consider Personal Compatibility
Think about whether you would be friends with this person. Trust and comfort are crucial when making significant life decisions, and a good rapport can make the process much smoother.
